YouTube Goes Mobile

Have you ever wished you could watch your favorite video on your cell phone. Even, a couple of years ago could you have imagined that one day you would be able to watch most of your favorite music videos on your cell phone?  Some of you may have imagined it and thought that it might be a nice feature on your phone. Today you can watch your favorite video or a video sent to you through the web on your cell phone. You Tube has now gone mobile. And the greatest thing is that it will work with many of today´s cell phones.

Remember when YouTube first began. YouTube is a video sharing website, where users can view, share or upload their favorite music, movie clip, tv clip or even homemade videos. Created in 2005 by three ex Pay Pal employees, and as with most IT, and web start ups, it began in one of the members houses and his garage. In 2006 it was named the invention of the year by Time Magazine and that same year was acquired by Google for over 1.6 million. With only 68 employees it is one of the most popular sites on the web today.

So, How does it work?

Essentially YouTube works in the following way:

·        If a user is unregistered he or she can watch most of the videos on the site but cannot download or upload them

·        If a user is registered then he has the ability to upload, download and even create  an unlimited number of videos.

So what’s new about YouTube. Well,  YouTube is entering the cell phone market. Because new technology is now available for your cell phones, you will be able to watch YouTube videos on most cell phones. Now You Tube has decided to market to a whole new audience. They now have a mobile version of their videos and the best part is now its available on any mobile phone and on any carrier. Previously this service was only available through Verizon and Vodafone, but is now available to all mobile phone users. The only problem with the service is that you can’t browse all of the videos. Access is only available for some of the editor’s top pics. These videos are only available in 3gp standard.

Ok, Ok I know your saying so what’s so great about that? Well, for one you will now have another option while waiting in those traffic jams, in line at the Bank, or even on those long trips. Before your only option was to pull out your cell phone and game, now you can watch some of the most popular videos.  If your taste in music is somewhat eclectic and you don’t like the average music video, well I’m sure your interest will be piqued if your bored and don’t have very much to do. And remember the company is only two years old, you never know what advances they’ll have in the next two years!
